Al Eker is a small Bahraini village located in the Capital Governorate of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and it is considered one of the country’s historic villages. The village lies south of Manama on the eastern coast of Bahrain’s main island and is distinguished by its proximity to the waters of the Arabian Gulf. The city is home to several well-known landmarks, including Al Eker Mosque, Al Eker Matam, Al Eker Coast, Al Eker Cemetery, ancient water springs, and the agricultural lands surrounding th
e village. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of recreational activities such as strolling along the coast, fishing, visiting farms and agricultural areas, and participating in local social events. Nearby the village, there are numerous museums, theaters, and art galleries, as well as many historic buildings and parks, such as the Bahrain National Museum, the Beit Al Qur’an Museum, the Bahrain National Theatre, the Cultural Hall Theatre, the Art Centre – Manama, the Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research, Bahrain Fort, Shaikh Isa bin Ali House, Andalus Garden, and Prince Khalifa bin Salman Park, in addition to many cinemas, libraries, and public squares. The city hosts one university, which is Applied Science University. It also enjoys a diverse transportation system that facilitates students’ mobility within the city, including public buses, taxis and ride-hailing services, and private transportation. Moreover, many festivals and events are held in the city and across Bahrain throughout the year, such as the Heritage Village Festival – Askar, Souq Qurtuba events / Al-Ma’roof campaign in the area, and evenings featuring folk arts and traditional performances. Overall, the city is considered an attractive destination on the tourism level.
