The University of Rostock, established in 1419, is third-oldest public university in Germany. It is divided into nine faculties covering various fields of study. Furthermore, many facilities are offered including; the Rostock University Library, Rostock Student Services and Rostock University Hospital. A Hanseatic trading city, Rostock was granted city rights in the 13th century and since then has been a nexus point for trade, learning and shipbuilding on the Baltic.
