Nicosia, also known as Lefkosia, is the divided capital city of Cyprus. It is the largest city on the island of Cyprus, located near the centre of the Mesaoria plain, on the banks of the River Pedieos. This capital city is also the country’s cultural heartbeat, a curious and fascinating mix of vibrant street life, confronting division and rich history. The city retains more of an authentically Cypriot air than the resorts of the southern coast. Fantastic little cafes invite you in for a Cypriot
coffee, surrounded by the many woodworking shops that are deep within the City. Nicosia is the administrative and financial hub of the island as well as home to several universities, colleges and other educational establishments. It also hosts most foreign embassies, offshore companies, international students and foreign workers, giving it a truly cosmopolitan feel.
