Near the border with both Iraq and Kuwait is a city with an interesting history. Hafar Al-Batin was built in the 7th century as a resting place for pilgrims traveling from Iraq to Mecca. Because the journey was long and there wasn't much water, wells were dug along the bottom of the Al-Batin valley. Today the population is 271,000 with over half a million in the metro area, and though the valley river bed is dry, Hafar Al-Batin still maintains good water sources that give life to the area's land
scape of grass and palm trees. Hafar Al-Batin has all the modern amenities anyone could want with restaurants, shopping, amusement parks, and the daily bustle of commerce and industry. Visitors will enjoy the clean streets and modern architecture as they explore all the city has to offer.
