On the outskirts of Riyadh is a city known as "the Pearl of Saudi Arabia," Diriyah. This city of 60,000 was the first home of the Saudi royal family with landmarks still standing from the 15th century. The historical part of the city, known as Al-Turaif, is a UNESCO World Heritage site complete with two palaces, a guesthouse, a bath house, and a mosque built in the Najdi style and beautifully preserved. As a well-known tourist destination, Diriyah receives attention from the local government who
have restored the historic part of the city and developed the modern part. The modern Al Bujairi Quarter has a palm-lined plaza, restaurants, art galleries, and parks where visitors can relax in the grass. Mosim Park is home to the city's football club, Mosim FC, and is very popular with the younger crowd. Diriyah is a city where history meets culture meets modernity, making it an ideal location for students.
