Xavier University School of Medicine (XUSOM) is a private university, and was founded in 2004. It is chartered by the government of Aruba with authorization by the Ministry of Education of Aruba to confer the Doctor of Medicine degree.
Xavier University School of Medicine system-based courses are taught by distinguished doctors from the U.S. who are committed to teaching. The student to teacher ratio is 10:1, which provides students with an individualized learning environment. All labs and classrooms have state of the art equipment, including LCD projectors, charts and anatomy museums.
In addition to many shopping malls, government offices and fast food restaurants are located within walkin
g distance of school. The proximity to the central bus station allows students easy access to all parts of the island. While students are guaranteed secure access to the campus at all times, as XUSOM has nighttime and weekend security officers on site.
Oranjestad is the capital and largest city of Aruba. Oranjestad is located on the southern coast near the western end of the island country. In the local language, Papiamento, Oranjestad is often referred to simply as "Playa". A population of around 30,000 people lives in the city, which is full of colorful landmarks and Dutch Colonial architecture. Over recent years, several modern recreations have emerged, including the outdoor shopping mall at Royal Plaza, and a few scattered buildings along
Main Street and on the Main Square. Fort Zoutman is one of the town's attractions, others being the tax-free harbor and the Willem III Tower, located near the fort. There are about eight museums on the island that display its cultural heritage.
